In this Bad Penny guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great Rory Gallagher song note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

There are only two chord progressions to learn for Bad Penny. They are pretty simple and shouldn't be much trouble for the intermediate level guitarist. I will demonstrate how to play both of those progressions.

However, we aren't here for the chord progressions now are we? Haha... Rory Gallagher had such a great melodic blues rock guitar style that you can just sing his solos. He isn't one of those blues based players that will just rehash the same old tired blues licks again and again. Rory's playing is full of melody and passion and is a lot of fun to play.

I will cover all four of Rory's solos in "Bad Penny" note-for-note. But along the way, I will also demonstrate what scale patterns he favored and how he liked move in and out of them. That way, you will have a better understanding as to how he constructed these solos and what he would employ when improvising live. Hopefully this will enable you to create your own improvisations over the chord progressions found in "Bad Penny".
