Description

"No More Tears" is the fifth song and title track on the 1991 Ozzy Osbourne album No More Tears. It reached number five on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 17 on the Dutch Top 40 chart and number 32 on the UK Singles Chart.

No More Tears is the sixth studio album by the English heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne. Released on 17 September 1991, the album charted at number 17 on the UK Albums Chart[4] and number seven on the US Billboard 200 albums chart.[5] No More Tears spawned four singles which reached the top ten of the US Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, including the number two "Mama, I'm Coming Home",[6] and the Grammy-winning track "I Don't Want to Change the World".[7] Along with 1980's Blizzard of Ozz it is one of Osbourne's two best-selling solo albums in North America, having been certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA[8] and double platinum by CRIA.[9] It was Osbourne's final album to feature drummer Randy Castillo and longtime bassist and songwriter Bob Daisley.

The song originated from a jam session, according to guitarist Zakk Wylde: "We were just messing around in rehearsals. Mike started jamming that on the bass, then Randy started playing drums, and then John started doing that keyboard bit."[3] Osbourne considers this song to be "a gift from God", as stated in the Prince of Darkness liner notes.

A shorter edited version of this song was released to some radio stations, and can be heard on the 1997 compilation album The Ozzman Cometh. The full-length version appears on The Essential Ozzy Osbourne.

In the 2002 remaster booklet for the No More Tears album, Osbourne stated that the song was about a serial killer.

In the September 27, 2018 issue of Weekly Alibi, while texting with music critic August March, Osbourne claimed he wrote the song while in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Lyrics:

The light in the window is a crack in the sky
A stairway to darkness in the blink of an eye
A levee of tears to learn she'll never be coming back
The man in the dark will bring another attack
Your momma told you that you're not supposed to talk to strangers
Look in the mirror, tell me, do you think your life's in danger? Yeah
No more tears (tears, tears)
No more tears (tears, tears)
No more tears (tears, tears)
No more tears (tears, tears)
(Tears, tears, tears...)
Another day passes as the night closes in
The red light goes on to say it's time to begin
I see the man around the corner waiting, can he see me?
I close my eyes and wait to hear the sound of someone screaming here
No more tears (tears, tears)
No more tears (tears, tears)
No more tears (tears, tears)
No more tears (tears, tears)
It's just a sign of the times
Going forward in reverse
Still, he who laughs last
Is just a hand in the bush
So now that it's over, can't we just say goodbye? (Bye, bye, goodbye)
I'd like to move on and make the most of the night
Maybe a kiss before I leave you this way
Your lips are so cold, I don't know what else to say
I never wanted it to end this way, my love, my darling
Believe me when I say to you in love, I think I'm falling here
No more tears (tears, tears)
No more tears (tears, tears)
No more tears (tears, tears)
No more tears (tears, tears)
Is just a hand in the bush
(In the bush, in the bush, in the bush...)

John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (3 December 1948 – 22 July 2025) was an English singer, songwriter and media personality. He rose to prominence during the 1970s as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, during which period he adopted the nickname "Prince of Darkness".
Osbourne co-founded Black Sabbath in 1968, providing lead vocals on their first eight albums, from 1970 to 1978. The band pioneered heavy metal music, particularly with their critically-acclaimed albums Black Sabbath, Paranoid (1970) and Master of Reality (1971). Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to his problems with alcohol and other drugs. He then began a successful solo career with Blizzard of Ozz in 1980 and released 13 studio albums, the first seven of which were certified multi-platinum in the United States. In the 1980s, Osbourne drew controversy for his antics both onstage and offstage, and was accused of promoting Satanism by the Christian right. He reunited with Black Sabbath on several occasions. He rejoined from 1997 to 2005, and again in 2012; during this second reunion he sang on the band's last studio album, 13 (2013), before they embarked on a farewell tour that ended in 2017. On 5 July 2025, Osbourne performed his final show at the Back to the Beginning concert in Birmingham amid health issues.
