Gilbert Leroy Hamilton was born on August 15, 1932. His professional music career began in the late 1950's as a performer in a touring version of The Drifters. Soon Gil Hamilton found himself signed to the Fury record label for a single release which flopped. Soon after, he found himself singing for Bert Berns at Capitol records with the song Tell Her, the original version of a song the Exciters had a hit with when the title was changed to Tell Him. A third single under his birth name, Move And Groove, on the Vee Jay record label, was reviewed in Billboard magazine on the very same day they reviewed this debut single by Johnny Thunder, who was christened such by Teddy Vann. This would be the biggest hit Johnny Thunder and Diamond Records each had. Johnny continues to record and perform to this very day.
