South Australia was often sung as a capstan shanty, a familiar going-away song while men trudged round the capstan to heave up the heavy anchor when the ship was about to begin a journey
8-year-old Eli and his delightful family were with us at The Bridge Folk Club on 2 June 2025 to enjoy our guest that night, the amazing Tom Lewis. Eli is a superfan of Tom and he persuaded his parents, Casey and Sylvia, to bring him, his sister Willow and his brother Ezra from Lauder in the Scottish borders to The Bridge (a quick 80 miles or so). Fabulous!
